Murray Mulls Over Murrayfield Meeting

Ayr coach Kenny Murray is spending his next few days pondering selection for the Cup Final squad to face Melrose at Murrayfield this Saturday.
"This is another huge game for us following last weekend's tough encounter at Meggetland. Boroughmuir put up a first-class effort and the game hung in the balance right till the end," he said. "We'll need to step up another gear or two for Melrose who start as favourites in my opinion. They are rightly at the top of the league and put in an excellent performance at their Sevens tournament. Our guys will be up for it, naturally, but only a fully-focussed display will do. Of course we'll plan a surprise or two but it will come down to who does the basics well."

His thoughts were echoed by assistant coach Peter Laverie, " Melrose have some excellent players in their side; John Dalziel is their version of our Skippy and that will make for an interesting contest, Scott Wight and Fraser Thomson are both very talented and I saw them close up in the Club International team this season. Graham Dodds too is a fine player so we have to step up to the mark, no question. However, we have excellent players at Millbrae and Kenny will demand nothing less than 100% from them. Expectations are high at Millbrae and these are because of the standards the players have set for themselves."

All to play for then.
