It is with sadness that we report the passing of former Ayr first XV captain Ian 'Yogi' Hay.
Ian, who got his nickname from his bear-like stature, captained the men in pink and black from 1967 to 1968, and played well into his late thirties before founding what is now Millbrae RFC, Ayr's defacto third XV which operates as its own club.
A primary school teacher in Patna and latterly the headmaster of Heathfield Primary School, Ian wrote the Ayr RFC centenary celebration book and was made a life member of the club.
To acknowledge his contribution to the club and mark his life, there will be a one-minute 'celebration' at Saturday's home game against Hawick as an alternative to the usual one-minute silence. The players will also be wearing black arm bands.
Ian's funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday 12th September), 3.30pm at Ayr Crematorium.
